Al Hazm Castle

Last week, when we finished visiting Nakhal fort, we went to visit Al-Hazm castle. It lies about 20km from Ar-Rustaq on the road leading back to the Batinah coast. Imam  Sultan bin Saif bin Sultan of the Ya’aruba dynasty,  build this castle in the 18th century.
The castle includes jail, soldiers corridor, ammunition store, guns towers, well date store, burial vault, tower prison, Qur’an school, Imam’s and soldiers mosques, water trough, secret escape tunnel, and more other rooms.
Actually, we didn’t visit all rooms, because it is very big, and it was the time to close it.
This is the castle from outside.

These are Imam’s burial vault. Imam Sultan bin Saif bin Sultan Al Ya'rubi, who was elected Imam in 1123 AH (1711 AD) and died in 1311 AH (1718 AD). Also, Imam Saif bin Sultan bin Saif al Ya'rubi, who  was elected Imam in 1140 AH (1728 AD) and died in 1153 AH (1742 AD).

There are more than 6 cannons in this castle. This cannon is the oldest British cannon in Oman. It dating since about 1630 AD.
